We offer the widest variety of cruises in the 1000 Islands including sightseeing, lunch, dinner cruises, as well as public and private special events.  Our mission is to achieve hospitality excellence as the portal to inspired visitor experience in the Kingston 1000 Islands destination.

Kingston Trolley Tours, an extension of Kingston 1000 Islands Cruises, offers our guests a unique way to see the sites of Kingston and encourages interest and excitement in Kingston tourism.  We offer a Hop on, Hop off service that helps guests to explore and enjoy Canada’s First Capital and experience our city’s unique attractions.

Waterfront Gifts & Apparel is premium giftware and clothing store, as well as a ticket sales location for Cruise and Trolley Tour tickets.  The store caters to shoppers from Kingston as well as guests from around the world.

Our operation is located in downtown Kingston Ontario, surrounded by historic limestone buildings, lively outdoor cafes and pubs, an outdoor farmers market and the picturesque Confederation Park. At the peak of our season we employ approximately 75 staff ranging from Reservation and Sales support, Servers and Bartenders, Galley Staff, Dock Supervision and Trolley Guides.  At Kingston 1000 Islands Cruises & Trolleys we offer an exciting and unique work environment.

A Note for all Positions

We are a seasonal business and require a commitment from May to October for all positions. Ability to work a flexible schedule is essential. Weekend, holiday, evening and night availability will be required. Starting wages are above industry norms; there is a financial bonus for completing the season, even if part time.

Onboard Hospitality – Servers/Steward/Bartenders

Job Descriptions:

Servers are experienced front-line service crew for public dinner cruises and exclusive charters such as weddings and corporate events.

Stewards are front-line service crew for all other public meal and sightseeing cruises and exclusive charters.

Tasks for both Servers and Stewards include: dining set-up and clean-up, drink and meal orders through Point of Sale (POS) system, team-focused food service, collecting payments for beverage service, anticipating and responding to guest needs, and delivering high service standards.

Bartenders are responsible for preparing beverages for guests directly, or fulfilling a server’s orders that have been entered in the POS system. Tasks include: proper opening and closing of the bar, including inventory tracking and ordering, following cleaning procedures, making drink orders efficiently, and operating the POS system.

 

Job Requirements:

We are looking for candidates with a strong ability to work in a fast-paced, service-focused and ever-changing environment. The best applicants will be well organized and adaptable. Applicants must have excellent communication skills and an overall positive outlook. A successful candidate will not only be a team player but will also have the ability to work well alone, without direct supervision.

No previous experience is necessary to apply, however, some experience in food & beverage service is an asset. Successful applicants will be offered a position as either a Server, Steward or Bartender based on their qualifications, with opportunity to advance based on performance.

All crew must understand the context of hospitality onboard ships and undergo marine orientation by the ship’s Captain before their first shift.  Heavy lifting is occasionally required.

Proficiency in other languages is an asset.

 

Onboard Hospitality – Canteen Stewards

Canteen Stewards operate an onboard café/canteen that provides food and beverage service to our guests during sightseeing cruises. This includes snacks, light meals, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and general maintenance of guest areas of the vessel.

Tasks include: proper opening and closing of the canteen including maintaining a cash float, following end-of-day procedures, completing necessary paperwork, and preparing deposits. Throughout a shift, you will be responsible for inventory tracking and ordering, completing all cleaning procedures, operating the POS system, anticipating and responding to guest needs, and delivering high service standards.

This position is the most independent of all Onboard Hospitality positions, and requires high levels of responsibility and initiative.

Customer Service Representative - Ticket Sales and Retail

Job Description:

As a Ticket Sales and Retail Representative, you will work in either the Ticket Booth or Waterfront Gifts & Apparel. You will greet customers, introduce products, and sell tickets.  Since you will often be the first person our guests meet when arriving in Kingston, you will be an ambassador for the company and for the city. You will help customers to make selections by being an expert on our products and the city: offering suggestions, building customers’ confidence, finding the product or package that best suits their needs, and then completing their transaction using a Point of Sale (POS) and reservation system. You will convey expertise on all products including retail items, cruise, and trolley tickets. You will build customer confidence by asking questions and sharing product knowledge and then complete the transaction by using a retail Point of Sale system. Additional responsibilities include maintaining on-floor stock, maintaining overall store tidiness, assisting in visual merchandising, and other tasks as required.

You will also contribute to the success of the Kingston 1000 Islands Cruises & Trolleys team by accomplishing other tasks on the ships and trolleys, on the dock or at the office as required.

Customer Service Representative – Administration

Job Description:

As a Customer Service Representative - Administration staff member you will work in our administrative office. You will communicate and interact with guests through email, live web chat, over the telephone and in person. You will be responsible for keeping up-to-date with our company’s internal products as well as our partners’ offerings. You will help work with guests through the selling process by offering suggestions, answering questions and building customized itineraries.

You will have daily general administration tasks to complete, including preparing daily seating plans, publishing monthly cruise schedules and other tasks as required. You will contribute to the success of the Kingston 1000 Islands Cruises & Trolleys by being a brand ambassador and a valuable team member.

Job Requirements:

Sales & Reservations – Events & Corporate Administrative Assistant

 

Job Description:

As a Sales & Reservation staff , you will work primarily at our administrative office.  You will interact with our guests in person, through email and over the telephone. You will be an ambassador for the company and an expert on our products. You will help customers to make selections by offering suggestions and building customers’ confidence, and then complete their transactions using a retail point of sale system.

In addition to your Sales and Reservations role you will work closely with the Corporate and Events Sales manager to help plan and execute private charters, weddings and other events on our ships and trolleys.

You will also have daily general administration tasks to complete, and will contribute to the success of the Kingston 1000 Islands Cruises & Trolleys team by accomplishing other tasks as required.

Job Requirements:

We are looking for candidates who can deliver outstanding customer service in a very demanding, fast-paced and ever-changing environment. Sales & Reservations – Travel Trade Administrative Assistant

 

Job Description:

As a Sales & Reservation staff member you will work primarily at our administrative office.  You will interact with our guests in person, through email and on the phone. You will be an ambassador for the company and an expert on our products, as well as the products offered by our attraction and accommodation partners. You will help our guests to build travel itineraries by offering suggestions and building customers’ confidence, and you will complete their transactions using a reservation software system.

In addition to your Sales and Reservations role you will work closely with the Travel Trade Sales Manager to complete sales and administrative tasks specific to the Travel Trade sales department. You will establish a relationship with frequent clients, and be responsible for regular follow-up, invoicing and other communication.  You will be responsible for meeting deadlines and managing your time to accomplish ongoing Travel Trade tasks while also acting in your sales and administrative support role.

You will also have daily general administration tasks to complete, and will contribute to the success of the Kingston 1000 Islands Cruises & Trolleys team by accomplishing other tasks as required.

Sales & Reservations – Marketing Administrative Assistant

 

Job Description:

As a Sales & Reservation staff member you will work primarily at our administrative office.  You will interact with our guests in person, through email and on the phone. In addition to your Sales and Reservations role you will support the Marketing Coordinator by helping to execute the company’s marketing plan. You will help to maintain the company’s website, social media presence, and e-mail follow-up campaigns, and you will measure their effectiveness using analytics tools. You will be responsible for meeting deadlines and managing your time to accomplish ongoing marketing tasks while also acting in your sales and administrative support role.

You will also have daily general administration tasks to complete, and will contribute to the success of the Kingston 1000 Islands Cruises & Trolleys team by accomplishing other tasks as required.

 

Job Requirements:

We are looking for candidates who can deliver outstanding customer service in a very demanding, fast-paced and ever-changing environment. Trolley Guide

 

Job Description:

As a Trolley Guide you will work on board the Trolley as a host, driver and tour guide. You will be responsible for the safety and wellbeing of the riders on the trolley tours. The Guide is a fully qualified driver of the Trolley vehicle and are also an ambassador for our historic city and a host for curious visitors from all over the world. Trolley Guide are well-versed in Canadian history, general vehicle maintenance knowledge, and will develop their abilities for story-telling/public speaking.   

Your job will be to entertain guests with history and beautiful sights in the summer sunshine, or with stories of ghosts and mystery when daylight runs out. Kingston Trolley Tours operates daily City Tours, chartered and customized tours, as well as a Ghost & Mystery themed tour.

 

Job Requirements:

The best applicants will have: an appreciation and general knowledge of the extensive history of Kingston; a working knowledge and enjoyment of Kingston’s sites, attractions and museums; a curious mind and a knack for storytelling; a desire to learn and expand on your knowledge; and an outgoing and friendly demeanour with strong communication skills and a passion for interacting with guests.

A commitment to safe operation of a large vehicle is necessary.

Ideal candidates will possess a ‘C’ class license.  However, if you have a passion for story-telling and would be interested in obtaining your ‘C’ license, we encourage you to apply. All candidates, including those that already have a ‘C’ license, must pass a road test with a qualified driving instructor.

Prep Cooks & Galley Assistant

 

Job Description:

The Prep Cook & Galley Assistant is an entry-level position into our culinary operations.  Tasks will include meal preparation, buffet service and clean-up duties both on board our vessels and in our main kitchen. You will be expected to safely and efficiently prepare high-quality meals in a fast-paced environment, while providing excellent customer service. 

Job Requirements:

We are looking for candidates who are personable, responsible and organized. Applicants must be able to work in a service oriented, fast-paced and ever-changing environment.  A successful candidate will not only be a team player but will also have the ability to work well alone, without direct supervision.

Food preparation experience and exposure to a high volume kitchen environment is an asset.

 

Lead Chef - Shore Kitchen

 

Job Description:

As a Lead Chef, you will plan and direct food preparation and cooking activities in the prep kitchen. You will be expected to produce high quality meals that meet the highest culinary standards for presentation and flavor, while working on a tight timeline with limited space.

You will cook on board when required. You are responsible for the supervision of all culinary staff including the recruiting, hiring and training. You will plan menus and ensure food meets quality standards and create and cost new recipes. You will purchase food and kitchen supplies. You should be comfortable working alone as well as part of a team, and you should be confident transitioning quickly from a leadership to support role, depending on your duties.

An ideal candidate will always maintain a safe, positive and professional work environment and will be approachable by both your peers and our guests. 

Job Requirements:

We are looking for candidates who have at least 3 years’ experience in a high volume food service environment.  Ideal candidates will have management experience and you should have proven time and issue-management skills. You should have a strong understanding of cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and kitchen procedures. Experience with banquet operations and trade certification or diploma would be assets.

 

Marine Staff

 

Navigation Staff

Job Description:

Reporting to the company Senior Master, marine officers are responsible for the safety and wellbeing of all passengers and crew aboard their vessel. Daily tasks will include the safe operation of company vessels in accordance with Kingston and The Islands Safety Management System, vessel security plans and wheelhouse resources management plan

Job Requirements:

The minimum job requirement is a Master or Mate Limited over 60 tons. All candidates must meet the requirements as laid out by Transport Canada to operate our vessels.  If you are unsure if you meet the requirements to apply for this position, please contact Captain Stephen Steels at ssteels@ktic.ca and let him know which qualifications you currently hold.

Engine Room Watch

Job Description:

Entry level position to work towards gaining a navigation license. Candidates will be put through the proper training to establish general ship knowledge and sea-time necessary to pass Navigation Staff licensing. Daily engine room and vessel checks, oil changes, daily maintenance, working alongside navigation staff and Chief Engineer to ensure safe operations of company vessels.

Job Requirements:

General mechanical background considered an asset. Successful candidates will have a positive attitude and must be comfortable interacting with guests. Dock & Trolley Cleaner

 

Job Description:

As a Dock and Trolley Cleaner you will be responsible for the daily organization and cleanliness of our dock, Ticket Booth, and Trolleys.  Tasks will included maintaining the interior and exterior of the trolleys, sweeping walkways, keeping the dock free of debris and moving chairs and tables to fit the daily operational plan.

Job Requirements:

We are looking for candidates who are dependable and responsible. A successful candidate must have the ability to work well alone, without direct supervision.

You will be working outside in all environments and heavy lifting will be required.

 

Marine Custodian

 

Job Description:

Day Vessel Cleaner & Maintenance

Job Description:

As a Vessel Cleaner and Maintenance worker you will be responsible for the organization and cleanliness of our vessels. Tasks will include maintaining the interior and exterior of the boats, washing windows, vacuuming, removing waste, and moving chairs and tables to fit the daily operational plan.  You will also be assigned other duties as required on the dock and onboard the vessels.

Job Requirements:

We are looking for candidates who are dependable and responsible. A successful candidate must have the ability to work well alone, without direct supervision.

You will be working outside in all environments and heavy lifting will be required.

You must be available to work 5am-6pm daily.

 

Operations Maintenance

The Operations Maintenance lead will have a key role in the management of the primary company assets and related components described as follows:
 
  • Vessels – Island Queen, Island Belle, Bateau Mouche (Island Star)
  • Vehicles – 700 series Trolleys, 300 series Mini Buses, 100 series Service Vehicles
  • Ancillary Equipment – Engines, Generators, Sound Systems, Hospitality
  • Equipment, water systems and other related electrical and mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Duff St. Warehouse
  1. Working in conjunction with Operations Manager, Senior Master, Company Engineer, Senior Marine offices and Trolley Supervisors as lead to develop system for tracking acquisition, disposal, operational status and maintenance requirements with all defined assets.
  2. Planning, coordination and recording in the execution of regular and timely scheduled maintenance of assets and ancillary components
  3. Participation in emergency or planned maintenance and repairs such as removal and replacement of engines or other major components, overhauls, breakdowns, etc…
  4. Co-ordination of external service where required in conjunction with Operations Manager and Company Engineer including pump outs, waste disposal, fuel supplies and specialty mechanics.
  5. Costing, maintenance and monitoring of parts and supplies inventory by location ensuring accuracy, cost control and loss prevention
  6. Costing, maintenance and monitoring of company tool inventory by location ensuring accuracy, cost control and loss prevention
  7. Review, update and amend documentation and record keeping related to asset Standard Operating Procedures and compliant with regulatory requirements particularly environmental risks.
  8. Daily inspection of Vessels and Trolleys including performing and recording of pre-operational checks and routines
  9. Daily review of operational logs for compliance, consistency and maintenance issues
  10. Daily debrief of Sr. Master and Operations Manager on any issues or concerns
  11. Daily checking and replenishing of mechanical operational supplies and parts such as top up oils, fluids, etc…
  12. Once weekly or more scheduled shift as Machinery Operator on the Island Queen.
